While a symbol with Enable Guides for 9-Slice Scaling on is edited in
symbol editing mode, the canvas draws its two horizontal and two vertical
guides as dotted lines across its art, with any tool and with ruler guides
hidden. With the Selection tool the pointer near a guide shows the Move
cursor, and dragging the guide sets it through `symbol.options`'s
`nineSliceGuides` as one undo step; Escape during the drag puts it back.
A guide within 4 screen pixels takes the press before the art and the
bounding box. A dragged guide stays within the art's box and stops short
of the opposite guide; positions outside the art are not supported yet.
The snap targets of a Shift-drag that starts on a highlighted Global Edit
match are gathered when the drag begins, for the selection with the match
added, before the first preview moves it. The first preview is now snapped
to the grid or to points, and later previews snap from the original
position.
A Shift-press on a highlighted object of the Global Edit waits for the release
to leave it out of the edit. A drag from it now selects it when the drag starts
and moves it with the selection, as a Shift-drag from an unselected object did.
The snap targets are gathered after the object joins the selection.
A match that sits inside a selected object is no longer highlighted, and a
Shift-click on it with the Selection tool deselects that object as before
instead of leaving the match out of the Global Edit.
While Global Edit is on, a Shift-click (not a Shift-drag) with the
Selection tool on a highlighted match, or on an object inside a matched
group, leaves that match out: it is no longer highlighted and later
edits leave it as it is. The object the edit started from stays in, and
Global Edit ends when fewer than two matches are left. Leaving a match
out is not an undo step.
- New command `select.globalEditExclude {id}` returns `{active, count,
ids}`; the Selection tool calls it on the release of a Shift-click.
- `ToolContext::global_edit` gives the tools the Global Edit's objects.
- Label and messages in the i18n catalogs; docs/mcp.md,
docs/ui-parity.md and docs/target-app-parity.md updated.

A double-click on a Radial, Grid or Mirror Repeat with the Selection
tool enters isolation mode on it. There its source art is selected and
edited as usual (a double-click on type in it switches to the Type tool
on that text) and every copy follows, the repeat keeping its settings.
Where a line lies under the outline of a closed path in front of it (such as
a shape an earlier merge made, which takes the place of the art in front of
the lines), the planar map gave that stretch only to the closed path, so the
line had no piece there. A merge or an erase across it left the line whole,
and the next map split the new shape along it into two regions.
- pathops: each planar edge records every input it lies on, and
BuilderArrangement::lines_under holds the lines' pieces under a closed
outline in front of them. lines, edges and Live Paint are unchanged.
- tools: BuilderMap adds those pieces to its lines, so a merge or an erase
removes the stretch between the regions it takes, as it does elsewhere.
An Alt-click where a line lies under an edge hits the one in front.
With one Objects on Path group selected, the Selection and Objects on
Path tools show a round handle beyond the top of the group's first
object, joined by a line to its attachment point. Dragging it adds the
angle the pointer turns about that point to the group's Rotate, previewed
while dragging and kept as one undo step on release
(object.objectsOnPath.options). Shift turns in 15 degree steps, Escape
cancels the drag, and the pointer shows the rotate cursor over the
handle.
Docs: docs/target-app-parity.md, docs/mcp.md.
The bucket outlines the face under the pointer at its Width setting and an
edge at half of it (4 px and 2 px by default), as the help page says faces
are highlighted with a thick line and edges with a thin line. The Live
Paint Selection tool keeps one width for faces and edges.
Baseline shift now moves a character in the line's frame, outside
Character Rotation, so a positive shift moves a character up from its
line at any rotation, and the character turns about its shifted pen
position. The Touch Type tool splits a drag into its part along the line
(kerning) and its part up from the line (baseline shift) at every
rotation; before, within about 6 degrees of a quarter turn it dropped
the cross-line part.
Characters that already combine a rotation with a baseline shift are
drawn in a new position. Their stored values do not change.
- text: glyph transform order, PositionedGlyph::pivot (the turning
point), tab leaders in the same order
- tools: Touch Type splits drags against the line's up axis and measures
rotate-handle turns about the shifted pen position
- engine: text.touchType description; dy is up from the line
- docs: mcp.md Touch Type paragraph, target-app-parity.md progress line
Double-clicking the Live Paint Bucket did nothing, and the tool always
filled on a click, stroked on Shift-click and highlighted in red at
4 px. It now opens Live Paint Bucket Options with Paint Fills, Paint
Strokes, Highlight, Color and Width.
- Paint Fills (on) and Paint Strokes (off) set what a click paints.
With Paint Strokes alone, a click strokes the edge within 4 px of the
pointer. With both on, a click strokes an edge within 4 px and
otherwise fills the face. With both off, a click paints nothing.
- Shift switches Paint Fills alone to Paint Strokes alone and back, and
switches both to Paint Fills alone. With the defaults, Shift-click
strokes the edge as before.
- Highlight turns the outline of the face or edge under the pointer on
or off; Color (a layer color or a custom color) and Width (1 to 20 px)
set it. With Paint Strokes alone, a selection of ordinary paths no
longer highlights a region, since a click there paints nothing.
- The options are tool options (tool.setOption {tool:
"livePaintBucket"}): they last across tool switches and are saved
with the preferences.
Docs: docs/mcp.md, docs/target-app-parity.md.
Cmd/Ctrl held with the Pen lends the last-used selection tool (Direct
Selection until one is chosen), which already moved anchors, straight
segments and curves of the path being drawn, one undo step each, and
handed the path back to the Pen.
With the Selection tool used last, the lent tool hit-tested the
bounding box even though the canvas hides it while anchors are selected
on their own, as the end anchor of a path being drawn is. Over the
path it showed a resize pointer, and the drag scaled the path by a
handle nobody could see: a flat path did nothing at all.
The Selection tool's handles now take the pointer only while the box is
shown (View > Show Bounding Box, no anchors selected on their own), so
the lent Selection tool moves the path being drawn.
Tests: select::tests::hidden_box_handles_take_no_press_while_anchors_are_selected,
tests::draw2::pen_cmd_drag_edits_anchors_and_segments_and_goes_on_drawing.
tool.setOption kept any finite rotate, while the Objects on Path Tool
Options dialog shows Rotate clamped to -360 to 360 and saves the value
it was given, so a rotate of 450 showed as 360 and the next attach used
450. The tool now clamps rotate to -360 to 360, and attach clamps the
saved rotate it falls back to the same way.
Double-clicking the Objects on Path tool opens Objects on Path Tool
Options: a nine-point Pivot grid, a Rotate field, Reset (the center and
0) and Save. Save sets the tool's options, which last across tool
switches and are saved with the preferences. The tool sends them with
each attach, and object.objectsOnPath.attach without pivot or rotate
uses them, so they apply to the objects attached next; groups attached
before keep theirs.
A Mesh tool click within the hit tolerance outside a gradient mesh hit the
mesh, but object.mesh.addLine looked for the point inside the outline only
and failed with "point is outside the mesh". The same click on a path's edge
made a 1x1 mesh without the line.
- GradientMesh::locate_within takes a tolerance: a point outside the mesh
within it of the outline gives the nearest point of the edge.
- object.mesh.addLine and object.mesh.create take an optional `tolerance`
(0 by default), and the Mesh tool sends its hit tolerance.
A sample now shares one work limit, counted in objects looked at, across
hit tests, pattern tiles and the tile or symbol art it places for hit
testing, and gives no color when the limit runs out. Objects that give
no color are skipped by id instead of cloning the document for each
retry, each nesting level reuses one scratch document that holds only
the symbols, and patterns and images are looked up in the sampled
document. The sample runs on a deep stack and follows art inside art at
most 16 levels deep.
A symbol instance is now sampled as it draws: its art is stained by the
instance's fill and placed by the instance's transform without moving
the patterns in it or scaling its strokes. Between the shapes of its art
the sample shows what lies below instead of the stain, and a pattern
tile holding an instance is sampled wherever the symbol's art reaches.
Shift-click with the Eyedropper sampled solid colors, gradients and
images only; on a pattern fill or a gradient mesh it sampled nothing.
- A pattern gives the color of the front-most tile art at the point,
placed by the pattern's transform, at any tile size. Tile art that is
itself a gradient, image, mesh, symbol or pattern is sampled the same
way, and a pattern inside tile art moves with its tile. A gap between
the tile art gives the color of what lies below.
- A gradient mesh gives the patch color interpolated at the point.
- A symbol instance gives the color of its symbol's art at the point.
The Live Paint Bucket's Eyedropper sampling and Brush Options' Key Color
eyedropper use the same sampling.
Homography::then_after returned products whose entries could overflow to
infinity or become NaN. A move, transform or grid reproject of type or a
symbol instance whose stored projection has large finite entries stored such
a product, and the type was then drawn flat, since a projection that is not
finite reads as none.
- Homography::checked_then_after returns None when an entry of the product
is not finite.
- project_node composes each type and symbol instance projection with it and
returns false, leaving the object as it is, when one would not be finite;
moves and transforms in perspective and Define Perspective Grid with
reproject then return the horizon error and leave the document unchanged.
- transform_map, attach_homography and size_homography return None for such
a product.
- Edit Text returns the horizon error, and does not enter isolation mode,
when the type cannot be shown flat where it is drawn.

The move drag remembers the plane it places loose art on. Pressing 4
during the drag, or dragging on after it, previews and commits the move
on that plane instead of dropping it. A 1-3 key pressed before the drag
threshold also sets the plane the move uses.
perspective.move takes constrain: true instead of a plane-space
direction. For each object, the command snaps the move to the nearest
axis or 45-degree diagonal of that object's own plane, so a selection on
several planes keeps every object on a line of its plane. The tool sends
the raw pointer with the flag.
On a diagonal, Snap to Grid now moves along the diagonal by the nearer
per-axis correction, so that edge lands on its gridline.
perspective.move takes an optional constrain: [dx, dy], a plane-space
direction. For an in-plane move, Snap to Grid's correction is projected
onto that direction, so a move the Shift key constrains to a plane axis
or a 45-degree diagonal stays on that line when an object edge lies near
a gridline. The Perspective Selection tool sends the direction for
Shift moves and copies. Moves without the param behave as before.
Holding Shift while dragging objects with the Perspective Selection tool
snaps the move, in the plane's own coordinates, to the nearest plane axis
or 45 degree diagonal. This applies to plain moves and to Alt and
Ctrl+Alt copies. The preview, the final move and the measurement label
use the snapped point. Pressing or releasing Shift, pressing 5 and
pressing 1 to 4 during the drag recompute the preview from the pointer;
a move perpendicular to the plane is not constrained.
Blob Brush Tool Options gain Angle (-180 to 180 degrees, 0 by default)
and Roundness (0 to 100 percent, 100 by default), with a preview of the
tip and three dabs; a drag in the preview square sets the Angle. The
elliptical tip keeps its angle on the page along a stroke, a 0 percent
tip is drawn 0.1 percent as wide as it is long, and Size set to
Pressure still varies its size. path.blob takes angle and roundness,
and both values are kept with the tool's options.
While a non-round tip drags, the Blob Brush shows the outline of the
area it covers with its length label, and an Alt drag that smooths
shows the Smooth tool's thin line.
Path Precision Tools gains the Shared Edge Merge Tool, kept out of the
toolbars (All Tools drawer and Object › Plug-ins › Path Precision Tools,
no shortcut), and Keep Shared Points Together:
- Shared Edge Merge Tool (sharedEdge): over two paths touching at two
coincident anchors (tolerance 0 to 3 pt) hovering shows the two
stretches and the merged edge; a click replaces both with it, half way
between them, or following the upper (Shift) or lower (Alt) path. Both
paths stay closed or open, anchors either stretch has inside are
matched on the other, one undo step.
- Making ends: near anchors meet on a click and an anchor one path lacks
is added to match; Shift+Alt asks for this inside a stretch.
- Keep Shared Points Together: an option that makes Slide Anchor Along
Path, Extend Path and Set Anchor take coincident anchors along. Nothing
else in the app changes.
- Shared Edges section in the Anchor Inspector: brush diameter,
coincidence and the option.
- Commands addon.pathtools.mergeEdge and movePointsTogether, params
validated and covered by the command sweep.
- Cursor stand-in, catalog rows in every language, docs and tests.
With the Live Paint Bucket, Alt-click on vector art samples its fill,
stroke and stroke weight into the paint defaults, and on a placed image
it samples the pixel as a solid fill with no stroke. Alt+Shift-click
samples only the color under the pointer, including an intermediate
gradient color or image pixels, into the active fill or stroke. Neither
click paints or changes the selection or selected art, and the next
Bucket click paints with the sampled paint. While Alt is held, the
Bucket shows the Eyedropper cursor and no face or edge highlight.
appearance.copyFrom takes `defaultsOnly: true` to update only the paint
defaults, and paint.sampleColor takes `clearStroke: true` to clear the
stroke default after an image sample into the fill.
With a path selected that the Smooth tool can change, Alt held at a
Paintbrush press now switches the drag to the Smooth tool: it smooths the
selected paths under the drag with the Smooth tool's radius and Smooth Tool
Options' Fidelity, and the cursor shows the Smooth tool before the press.
Alt pressed after a stroke begins still closes the path on release. With no
such path selected (nothing, only text or an image, or only a two-point
line), Alt at the press draws the closed stroke as before.
The Paintbrush no longer reads the Pencil's "Alt key toggles to Smooth Tool"
setting: its Alt close and Alt smoothing do not depend on it.
Path Precision Tools gains two tools, kept out of the toolbars (All Tools
drawer and Object › Plug-ins › Path Precision Tools, no shortcuts):
- Corner Tool (cornerTool): editable corners on any path through the
existing Live Corners. Hover shows an eligible anchor, a click cuts a
corner with the tool's radius and kind, a drag sizes it (Shift: whole
values), a corner's marker selects it and loads its values, resizes it
and removes it at 0 or on a double-click; a corner never grows past
what fits; an Alt-marquee cuts every eligible anchor inside.
- Corners section in the Anchor Inspector: radius, kind, selected count,
Apply to Selected Anchors.
- Slide Anchor Along Path (slideAnchor): a drag runs an anchor along its
curve, the neighbouring segments refitted by the keep-shape kernel;
Shift snaps where the tangent is a multiple of 45° from the constrain
angle.
- Commands addon.pathtools.cornerSet, cornerRemove and slideAnchor, one
undo step each, params validated and covered by the command sweep.
- Cursor stand-ins, catalog rows in every language, docs and tests.
