Don Omondi dfa9548938 EPS import: an image too large to read skips its data
An image over the pixel cap was left out without reading its data, so
the program went on to read that data as PostScript and the file failed
to open (Ghostscript's eps2write writes a page with a large inline image
this way). The data is now skipped: the filters that find their own end
(ASCIIHexDecode, ASCII85Decode, SubFileDecode) read the file up to it,
without decoding what they pass.

Don Omondi fdbd116577 EPS import: cvi and cvr read radix numbers
cvi and cvr read a string as the PostScript syntax reads a number
(PLRM 3rd ed., cvi, cvr), so (16#20) cvi is 32. The reader parsed strings
as decimal only. Ghostscript's eps2write prolog undoes a name's #20 escape
that way, so its files with a spot colour named with spaces stopped
reading at that colour.

Don Omondi 8c57a65ee0 EPS import: SubFileDecode reads counts past the allocation cap
The count of a SubFileDecode filter bounds what it passes through, not
what it allocates, but the reader refused counts over 4 MiB as a
rangecheck. Ghostscript's eps2write files read each content stream with
currentfile Length () /SubFileDecode filter, so a page whose stream is
longer than 4 MiB failed to open.

Don Omondi 06a035e86b EPS import: bind leaves the procedures it already bound alone
bind makes each procedure it goes into read-only and ignores read-only
procedures (PLRM 3rd ed., bind). The reader bound them again, so a prolog
that binds a procedure holding an earlier-bound one, after defining a name
such as M as an operator, turned that procedure's own variable M into
setmiterlimit. Ghostscript's eps2write prolog does this, and its files with
sampled functions (transfer, black generation) failed to open.

dotCooCoo 1e2ff653b5 Save: the save commands' params text names the notes on options
document.save's params text, which file.saveAs, file.saveCopy and

given in `options` that the format doesn't read.

dotCooCoo 7ee6b429ba MCP: save_file notes name the legacy or non-PDF-compatible .ai
save_file's note for a key in `options` that the written format doesn't
read named every .ai file a PDF-compatible .ai, also when the save wrote
a version 7 file (`aiVersion: "7"`) or one without PDF content
(`pdfCompatible: false`).

The save itself now writes that note, beside its note on a top-level
`compress`, `version`, `preview` or `precision`, and names the file it
writes, including when it reuses the options the document was last saved
with. save_file returns the save's reply unchanged, and
`run_command document.save` and the other save commands give the same
notes.

dotCooCoo 3d7dda200e .ai import: opacity mask art of one object opens as that object
The reader put an opacity mask's art in a group every time, so a mask
made from one path came back from a saved .ai as a group holding the
path, while Make Opacity Mask keeps one object as the art. This also
changes how existing files with single-object masks open, because
the editing data of a .ai, an EPS and a PDF goes through this reader:
the art is the object.

A hidden object or a guide stays in a group, because the canvas draws
the art's root whether it is shown or not and whether guides show. A
clipping path alone stays a clipping group.

The editing copy writes a plain group of one object as a group (u, the
object, U), so it reads back as a group. Its other plain groups are
still written as their members. Hidden mask art is written shown,
because the canvas draws it and a group read back would not.

The panel menu's item added the artboard and left the active artboard

tool, the new artboard is then the only one selected.

dotCooCoo d323716068 Links: a link check whose worker ends without a result no longer stops later checks
When the link-watch worker unwound before storing its stamps,
poll_link_scan returned None on every frame and left link_scan set. The
app then asked for a repaint every 100 ms and start_link_scan returned
early, so the app did not look for changed linked files in the
background again for the rest of the session.

poll_link_scan now clears a look that has ended without stamps. The new
ended_without_stamps helper holds the slot's lock across its read of the
stamps and its read of the ended flag, so a look whose worker stores its
stamps during the check is applied. The app goes back to its two-second
wake, and the next look starts on schedule. A look still running and a
look that stored its stamps behave as before.

dotCooCoo 0be78766f4 .ai import: a compound of clipping paths keeps their knockout shape flag
Clipping paths in a compound path that holds a drawn look become one
compound path. It took the paths' shared stroke, opacity and blend mode
but dropped the knockout shape flag. It now has the flag when every
clipping path has it.

dotCooCoo a9b49f716b .ai import: images, meshes and blends keep the knockout shape flag
An `Xy` whose shape operand is set now reaches an image (embedded or
linked) and a gradient mesh when it is written before the object, and a
mesh or blend when it is written after the object's end. A live blend
takes the flag from its drawn steps. Before, the reader dropped the flag
on these objects, so an image saved with Opacity & Mask Define Knockout
Shape lost it on reopening, with no warning.

A styled object takes the flag written on its drawn look. For a text
object, the flag goes to the object when the look draws only its type,
and otherwise to the group that holds the look and the type. An opaque
look that draws more than the type and sets the flag now goes into that
group as well.

dotCooCoo 0c5ad8e242 .ai save: objects next to type keep their own transparency
The reader gives an Xy right after a compound path or a text object to
that object. The writer now writes XR before the Xy of type, images and
guides, so type next to type, a compound path before type, image or
guide, and type before an image or guide keep their own opacity, blend
mode and knockout shape flag.

- Type keeps its Isolate Blending and Knockout Group state in a state
block after its text object, as its outlines did on their group.
- The reader no longer gives a layer the Xy before its last text object.
- The ASCII85 end marker of the text document stays on one line.
- The warning and docs/file-format-parity.md also list area type in an
open frame, type on an open path whose ends meet, type of only white
space and threads of type on a path as written as outlines.
- README.md, ROADMAP.md, docs/gaps.md, docs/roadmap.md and
docs/target-app-parity.md describe the editing copy a saved .ai holds.
- clip_path's doc comment is back on clip_path.
- import_fuzz reaches threaded area type and vertical type.

dotCooCoo aed9898b8d .ai save: the editing copy keeps type as type
The editing copy of a PDF-compatible .ai wrote every text object as its
outlines. Point type, area type and type on a path are now written as
text: a text object in the layers that names its story, and the text
document after the document data (%AI11_BeginTextDocument) holding the
stories.

- Each story holds its characters (a paragraph ends in \r, a forced line
break is \x03), its character runs (font, size, leading, tracking,
baseline shift, horizontal and vertical scale, solid fill and stroke
with its weight, capitals, Tate-chu-yoko) and its paragraph runs
(alignment, indents, space before and after, hyphenation, right-to-left
  direction).
- Point type keeps its point and, when it is turned, its matrix. Type
scaled by one factor, such as all type on a large canvas, has its scale
in its sizes, frame and path. Area type keeps its frame, rows,
columns, gutters and first baseline, type on a path its path and where
it starts and ends, and vertical type its orientation. A threaded story
is one story through its frames in order. Area type and type on a path
carry their frame's path in the layers as well.
- Type the text document can't hold is written as its outlines, with a
warning: type in opacity masks, pattern tiles and art cut to a clipping
object, mirrored type, turned or unevenly scaled area type and type on
a path, frames of several parts, area type that flows around a text wrap,
threads whose frames differ in orientation or include a frame written
as outlines, type and stories past the sizes the reader reads, and type
with inline graphics, ruby, gradient or pattern paint or an appearance
or opacity mask of its own. Other character and paragraph attributes are left out, with
  a warning.

Tracking is written as a whole number of thousandths of an em, and
solid paints as simple paints; tracking that isn't a whole number is
rounded, with the warning.

Each construct is written in the form VectorCraft's .ai reader reads
(crates/eps/src/import/ate.rs at 36ef34dfdd: Texts::read :407, story
:501, frame :456, para :562, style :588, paint :622, AreaFrame::read
:284; the text object in import/ai/read/art.rs:15 and its path in
import/ai/frames.rs:26), and the tests read the written data back
through that reader. The scripting
reference documents the same attributes on the reading side (text frame
kinds, columnCount, columnGutter, rowCount, startTValue, endTValue,
orientation, and the character attributes):
https://web.archive.org/web/20160410101607/https://wwwimages.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/illustrator/sdk/CC2014/Illustrator%20Scripting%20Reference%20-%20JavaScript.pdf

The reader now closes a text object's frame path painted with a closing
operator (n, f, s, b, h), so area type's frame comes back closed; places
point type whose story keeps no composed lines at its frame's point;
keeps a story's last empty paragraph (only the \r that ends the story is
dropped); gives type made from the text document its text object's lock,
as it gives it its visibility; and gives type its text object's knockout
shape flag, as it gives it its opacity and blend mode.

Tests: the round trip of every kind of type and its state, a second
write of what is read back giving the same bytes, the text document and
stubs, scaled point type, a story split between threaded frames, the
fallbacks and the warnings, and the engine's editing copy with every save
option; a fuzz case for damaged text documents and stubs.

colors on the 2,000 circles. The pixel sentence there also names the

dotCooCoo 6c1f426dd0 Canvas: selection marks are placed by the same sum as the rest of the canvas

dotCooCoo dcc1b2158c Tests: canvas frame helper reads the selection's marks as shapes

dotCooCoo 94741cdae1 Canvas: selection subpaths and handles out of view add no triangles to a frame
Each subpath and each direction handle is now tested against the view on its own, and gets its triangles the first time it is in view. A group or compound path with one subpath in view, or a long path zoomed in with a few of its handles in view, draws only those.

dotCooCoo 4a5ff880ff Canvas: selection outlines and anchors are reused between frames
The canvas flattened every selected object's outline and tessellated its
anchors and handles again in each frame. It now keeps them per object as
one mesh, valid for the object's node, layer color and selected anchors.
An idle frame draws the mesh again. A pan moves kept outlines and handles
and places the anchor squares again.

A frame with a new zoom, rotation or display scale draws plain shapes and
keeps nothing, and the next frame at that view builds the marks. Entries
of objects that leave the selection or the document are dropped.

With ribs only at the path's corners (an Along gradient), the ribs that reach
across an arrowhead stopped at the last corner inside its reach, so the slice

now gets a rib of its own.

dotCooCoo 18015f3631 Type: a selected story stays selected when its text leaves the edited frame
When a frame threaded in before the edited frame takes all of the story's
text, the edited frame is left with no text while the story stays
selected. The other frames' text is now highlighted, Delete and Backspace
replace the story, an Alt+arrow step changes the tracking of every frame,
and Copy and Cut take the story. A story whose frames hold no text has
nothing to copy, and Delete in it records no undo step.

dotCooCoo 22bb2ac8a6 Type: a selected story's highlight and typing follow its current thread
With a whole story selected, the highlight and typing read the frames saved
at Select All, while a pick, a fill and the other story-wide edits read the
document's thread. A frame added by text.thread.add took a pick without being

Both now read the thread through Document::story_of. A frame threaded in
during the selection is highlighted and takes the edit, and a frame that
leaves the thread is not highlighted and keeps its text.

Sven Lafebre 1b62f86b8c Fix #5714: doc comments on the width profile tests 2026-11-07 05:15:10 +07:00
Sven Lafebre 9da56717a0 Fix #5714: widths run smoothly between width points
The width between two width points was a straight line, so a variable-width
stroke turned a corner at every width point.

- Each side of a width profile now follows a monotone cubic (Fritsch-Carlson)
through its points: no kink at a point, flat at a point wider or narrower
than both neighbours, never past either point of a span. Points on one line
stay on it and two-point tapers are unchanged; stacked points still step.
- widest() counts each span's wider left and wider right, since the two sides
  needn't peak together.
- The outliner samples straight runs between width points closely enough to
follow the curve to the drawing tolerance (at most 64 samples per span and
4,096 per piece); straight spans get none.
- Tests that expected straight-line widths now expect the curve. The stroke
gradient coverage test uses Teardrop instead of Wave until #5964 is fixed.

dotCooCoo 0c570dee87 .ai import: paths with an Art brush open with the brush on their stroke
A path with an Art brush comes in as the path, with the brush on its
stroke at its weight, instead of as its drawn look, when the brush
stretches art of solid-filled paths along the path, unflipped, at 100% in
Tints. The art runs on the side of the path the file draws it.

The drawn look stays for other colorizations and widths; Proportional,
between-guides and flipped brushes; type; a path with settings of its own,
a variable width, effects, a swatch stroke or an entry that isn't read;
and art with strokes, gradients, patterns, masks or effects, or no length.

A brushed stroke, Calligraphic ones too, takes the brush the Brushes panel
keeps under its name, and an image with a brush keeps its drawn look.

In every document, Tints and Tints and Shades take art in black ink alone
by its ink amount, and a process or gray stroke color's tints and shades
stay in that color's model.

Place and Expand bring the brushes the art uses, renaming on conflict.

Part of #637.

dotCooCoo ab3ac3d429 .ai import: envelopes map from their stroked box when the file saves its size
When Distort Appearance is on and the size a `.ai` saves for an
envelope's contents (`AIDeformArtWidthKey`, `AIDeformArtHeightKey`)
matches the contents' bounds with strokes, the reader now maps the
contents from that stroked box. It used to map them from the geometric
bounds, half a stroke inside that box, so an envelope of stroked art
could differ from its drawn art and keep the drawn art with a note.

Envelope Options hold the box's margins as `boundsMargin`, shares of the
geometric bounds at the top, bottom, left and right. Native files write
them only when they are not zero, and `object.envelope.info` reports
them then. Leaving Edit Contents measures them again when the strokes
reach differently than when Edit Contents began, and the node holds
what they measured then until it leaves. New envelopes have no
margins, so their results do not change. Contents with no width or no
height, such as one straight line, get no margins.

dotCooCoo b50a6bcad4 PDF export: the link walk measures only linked objects and clipping groups
The walk that writes link annotations measured every object at every
level, on every export that can have links, and read the box only for
an object with a URL that opens and for a clipping group. It now
measures only those, so a document with no URLs or clipping groups is
not measured a second time. The link annotations are unchanged.

The output is byte for byte the same on a document of linked objects in
plain and clipping groups on and off the page, with default settings,
with uncompressed text and with PDF layers.

dotCooCoo a3045845c8 PDF export: members of a plain group or layer are measured once to leave out off-page art
The walk measured every object's visual box to leave out what is off
the page. A plain group or layer is measured as the union of its
members, and each member then measured itself again when it was
written, so an object in plain groups was measured once for each level
it sits at.

Measuring a plain group or layer now keeps its members' boxes in a
tree, and each member uses its box when it is written. A container
written whatever its box is (a PDF layer's group, placed symbol art) is
not measured. A knockout group's elements are measured for the group's
box and again for the list of elements on the page, and that second box
is used for the element and for its mask. Objects in a live container
(Blend, Envelope, Repeat, Intertwine) are still measured with the
container and again after it is expanded. Node::visual_of_members holds
the formula that Node::visual also uses, so the boxes and every decision
are unchanged.

The output is byte for byte the same on one open path of 200,000
anchors, 20,000 rectangles in 200 groups of 100, and 5,000 point type
objects, and on a document of plain, see-through, clipping and knockout
groups on and off the page, each exported with default settings, with
uncompressed text and with PDF layers.

dotCooCoo a17907ee7d .ai import: data with no end outside a section does not hide a later section's end
When the scan for swatch names searched data outside a section and found no `~>`, it stopped searching for the end of all later data. Data in a later section then was not skipped, so a `(` on a `%_` line of it opened a string that ran past the section's end marker, and a color named after the section did not reserve its name. The scan now records the search that found nothing per section's end marker, so a search in another section still stops at that section's markers.

dotCooCoo 3e1893d399 .ai import: ASCII85 data without its end does not hide the section's end
Data with no `~>` before the section's end marker was lexed as tokens, so a `(` on a `%_` line of it opened a string that ran past the marker and the section did not end. The scan now skips that data up to the section's end marker, or up to the start of a section of the same kind nested after it. A `%` on the key's own line starts no marker, and a marker line with bytes that are not UTF-8 counts, as the scan reads comments.

When versioned content does not end, the scan for swatch names goes back to where its dictionaries stood at the start of that content, so data in the range it reads again is skipped.

too: a Shift-drag moves the selection held to 45° steps, and a Shift-click
there takes the object out of the selection, as a Shift-press on the object
  does.
- One rotate zone for the Selection tool and the shape tools
  (`select::rotate_zone`): a press on a bounding-box handle is not a turn, so
the shape tools' zone matches the Selection tool's classification exactly.
- The shape tools' hover cursor follows the press order (corner and pie widgets,
then the centre point, then the rotate zone), and a move of the selection
shows the Selection tool's feedback: SelectionCopy with Alt, ArrowHollow while
  it snaps.
- Engine-level tests for the whole gesture (`crates/engine/src/tests/shapetools.rs`):
repeated previews and one undo step, Alt copy, Escape then release, a turn
about the centre, the corner widget still rounding, and an unfilled shape
  moved by the Selection tool.
- docs: evidence in target-app-parity.md's Shapes bullet and the M2 milestone,
and the Move cursor's entry names the copy and snap cursors.

FractalEncrypt 1c345d8e6a Shape tools: drawing another shape from the selected one's centre moves it
A press on the centre point of the selected shape now moves the selection, as
asked (#5477), so the Constrain Angle test's repeated draws from the same point
moved the polygon drawn before them. It deselects first: nothing selected, the
press draws.

FractalEncrypt adbcb3a224 Shape tools: the selection moves from its centre point and turns outside a corner
A shape just drawn keeps its bounding box with the Rectangle, Rounded Rectangle,
Ellipse, Polygon and Star tools, but its centre point (Attributes › Show Center)
did nothing and the box's handles only drew: a press anywhere started a new
shape, and with the Selection tool a press on the centre of an unfilled shape
started a marquee.

- The Selection tool now takes a press on a selected object's centre point as
the start of a move (held by that point, so it snaps and Alt copies), as
Direct Selection has since #4891. A click there still makes the object the
  key object of a multi-selection.
- The shape tools take it too, and take a press in the rotate zone just outside
a bounding-box corner (the Selection tool's own zone and cursor) as the start
of a rotation about the box's centre. Live Corners widgets keep the corners
themselves, so a press on a corner still rounds it; every other press still
draws a new shape. Escape cancels, as for the Selection tool's drags.

`hit_center` moves from direct.rs to select.rs, shared by the three tools.

FractalEncrypt 9c879301b4 Transform fields: the Artboard Control bar's link comes after its fields
The Artboard tool's own Control bar drew the W/H Constrain Proportions link
between W and H, so with that tool Tab stopped on it before H, as the object
Control bar did before the last commit. It reserves the link's place and makes
the button after the fields too, and the link now toggles with Space or Enter
when it has the keyboard, as a dialog's button does.

Tests: `one_tab_moves_from_a_field_to_the_next` covers the Artboard Control bar
(W to H in one press), and `the_control_bar_link_toggles_by_click` Tabs from H
to the link and toggles it with Enter.

FractalEncrypt 417039f456 Transform fields: the tab-order test says the link is focusable, after the fields 2026-11-07 05:15:01 +07:00
FractalEncrypt 5ecf7e7dc0 Transform fields: the W/H link stays a tab stop, after the fields
A review found the link lost its keyboard focus when it stopped being a tab
stop. It is focusable again, and the Control bar now keeps the link's place
between W and H but makes the button after the H field, so Tab still goes from
W straight to H and finds the link after it (as the Transform and Properties
panels already draw it). Tests: Shift+Tab goes back one field too, and a click
on the Control bar's link still toggles the preference.

The Blob Brush Tool Options test that expected two Tabs between the Roundness
field and the tip preview now expects one, as every field does. Docs: the Tab
entry in target-app-parity.md, both revision histories and the M1 milestone.

FractalEncrypt 892c0659e5 Transform fields: Tab moves from a field to the next field, one press each
A numeric field's label is a scrub zone laid over the label (a drag scrubs the
field, a click focuses it). It was registered with `Sense::click_and_drag()`,
which is focusable, so every field had a second, invisible tab stop: Tab went
from X to W's label zone and only then to W. The zone is now `CLICK | DRAG`,
not focusable, and the W/H Constrain Proportions link — a button between W and
H in the Control bar — is no longer a tab stop either, so Tab goes from W
straight to H. The preference stays reachable from Preferences › General.

Test: `one_tab_moves_from_a_field_to_the_next` (Transform panel, Properties
panel's Transform section and Control bar).
