## Rollback
Install 0.99.13. Nothing is saved by this change.
## Installation record (4 November 2026, 14:38 GMT)
Approved by Paul at 14:36. The box was on its home screen with nothing playing.
- **Snapshot and rollback:**
- All 191 schedule-folder files were copied off the box, with SHA-256 sums, to Codex/install-0.99.14-20261104-143641/before.
- A rollback copy is on the box in `no_backup/schedule-rollback-0.99.13`.
- The 0.99.13 APK is in outputs/revision-0.99.13.
- The cutover snapshots and the 0.99.13 install snapshot are kept.
- **Install:** with `adb install -r`. The box reports versionCode 144, 0.99.14-source-diagnostics.
- **Bookings and cursors:** all 31 plans and 30 progress files were compared after launch.
- 164 files are byte-identical.
- The rest only dropped programmes that ended more than 24 hours ago, which is the daily trim.
- Every remaining entry is identical, including presentation keys. Nothing was added, and every plan cursor is the same.
- 12 aired places moved, each to the latest programme of its show already started.
- **Shuffle decks:** this release leaves the code that builds them untouched.
- **Scheduling:** all 30 channels topped up with `added=0` and `clashes=0`. Booking fingerprints were already shown identical to 0.99.13 before install.
- **Playback:** Orbit resumed with one player start and audio running, with no player, decoder or crash errors. The box was then returned to its home screen.
- **Privacy:** the inspection lines contain no path, URL, `api_key`, token or file name. A search of them for http, api_key, token, /mnt, /media, backslashes and .mkv found nothing. Source ids appear only as Emby's own `mediasource_N` identifiers.
- **The Beerus inspection output:** docs/replays/beerus-inspect-log-0.99.14.txt.
- **Finding:** Emby didn't return a location type for these episodes, so it reads "unknown". It's harmless.

# Dragon Ball Super: Beerus on Vortex Prime: programming proposal (read-only)
4 November 2026. This is a proposal only: Beerus isn't added to Vortex, nothing is booked, and no media or catalogue is changed. It would ship as Living Network Stage D's first booking, as its own release, after your approval. Committed bookings are never rewritten.
## What's confirmed
- **Copy:** Emby 8016753, provisionally. It has episodes 1 to 4, none missing, 23 minutes each.
- **Video:** H.264 High 1080p in mkv.
- **Audio:** Japanese AAC stereo.
- **Subtitles:** English ASS, flagged forced and default.
- **Box verdict:** all 4 are playable, as a compatibility result from metadata and the box's decoders. See docs/replays/beerus-inspection-2026-11-04.md.
- **Not yet confirmed:** actual playback in Orbit's player, and whether the English subtitles show automatically. See the playback test below.
## The existing schedule
- **Vortex's committed plan** runs to Wednesday 11 November at 13:22, and it stays as it is.
- Its Saturday 7 November Vortex Prime hour (16:00 to 18:00) is Cardcaptor Sakura, Batman Beyond, Gundam Wing, Yu-Gi-Oh! and ThunderCats.
- **Dragon Ball Super (2015)** is airing in order: episodes 1 to 6, the start of the Beerus saga, between 6 and 11 November, plus Broly at Friday's Movie Night.
- At its current pace, it should be past the Beerus saga, its first 14 or so episodes, around 18 to 20 November. That's an estimate, to be confirmed from its bookings at the next top-ups.
## Proposal
| | Proposed |
|---|---|
| **Premiere** | **Saturday 21 November, 17:00**, Vortex Prime. This is the first Saturday clear of both the committed week and Dragon Ball Super (2015)'s run through the same saga. |
| **Cadence** | Weekly: one new-to-Orbit episode every Saturday at 17:00. |
| **Progression** | In order from episode 1, with its own cursor. Episodes 1 to 4 air on 21 and 28 November and 5 and 12 December. New episodes join as the library gains them. Japan airs weekly, so Orbit stays about four weeks behind with a buffer in hand. |
| **If the library runs dry** | If no unaired, playable episode is in the library by the Saturday, the slot goes back to normal Vortex Prime rotation. There's no repeat billed as new, and no promotion. |
| **Optional encore** | Sunday 16:00, that week's episode again, for anyone who missed Saturday. Your choice. |
| **Not on Vortex otherwise** | Beerus airs only in this slot, so it stays an event and never enters everyday rotation. |
| **The Dragon Ball Super (2015) overlap** | A soft rule for later: don't book Dragon Ball Super (2015)'s matching episodes, or Battle of Gods or Resurrection 'F', on Vortex within 3 days of the same part of Beerus. The episode mapping needs checking first. Until then, the 21 November start keeps them apart for episodes 1 to 4. |
### Channel fit
- **For:**
- Vortex Prime (16:00 to 18:00) is the energetic, colourful after-school action hour, and Dragon Ball is its anchor franchise.
- Beerus is mainstream and comedic, so it suits Prime better than Afterburn (21:00 to 23:00), which is darker and more intense.
- A fixed weekly slot also echoes how Toonami premiered new episodes.
- **Against:**
- Japanese audio with English subtitles is unusual for Prime, which is otherwise mostly English-dubbed shows.
- If you'd rather keep Prime dubbed, the alternative is Saturday 21:00 in Afterburn, or waiting for a dub in the library.
### How it would be built (Stage D, later, for approval)
- **The Saturday event:** a 17:00 to 18:00 event on Vortex, using the same mechanism as Evidence Sunday Mystery and the After Dark events:
- its only title is Beerus;
- one start a night;
- it's on time, so the programme before it finishes by 17:00;
- it has its own presentation key, such as `vortex.prime.premiere`.
- **The rest of the hour:** returns to the usual Vortex Prime rotation.
- **Bookings:** the first one appears at the top-up when 21 November comes within the seven-day horizon, around 14 November. Nothing already committed changes.
- **Copy rules:** episode 1 of copy B is never used, and the copy is pinned by its Emby id, 8016753, so the duplicate can't be mixed in.
## Presentation and What's On (later; only once booked)
- **The booked programme:** carries a "New on Vortex" or "First on Orbit" tag on each episode's first Orbit airing.
- **What's On, once a booking exists:**
- "Dragon Ball Super: Beerus: Saturday 17:00 on Vortex" in the week before;
- "New on Vortex tonight" on the day;
- "Episode 2 next Saturday" after each airing, only if that next booking exists.
- **No announcement** before a playable episode is booked. If a booking is lost, its promotion goes with it.
- **Idents:** the Vortex Prime ident package comes later. Until then it uses Vortex's standard presentation.
## Playback test: needs your choice
The compatibility check passed. That isn't the same as seeing it play. Orbit can only play booked programmes, so a test that doesn't touch bookings needs one of these:
1. **A small debug-only release (recommended).** An intent extra plays one chosen episode once, in Orbit's normal player, then returns.
- It runs only when started by hand.
- It books nothing and is fully separate from scheduling.
- It has its own tests, and fingerprints must stay identical.
- We'd run it on episode 1 of copy A while the TV is idle. It would check picture, sound, the subtitles showing by default and how the ASS styling renders.
2. **The Emby app on the box.** Play episode 1 there yourself. This checks the file and subtitles, but not Orbit's player.
## What needs you
1. Approve copy 8016753 as the Beerus source.
2. Choose the slot: Saturday 17:00 Vortex Prime from 21 November (recommended), or Afterburn, or wait for a dub.
3. Choose whether to have the Sunday encore.
4. Choose the playback test: option 1 or 2.
Nothing is added to Vortex until you've approved all of this as a Stage D release.

# Dragon Ball Super: Beerus: read-only inspection on the box (4 November 2026, 14:21)
# Dragon Ball Super: Beerus: read-only inspection on the box (4 November 2026)
This used the app's existing `orbit_inspect_series` hook on 0.99.13, with Paul's approval at 14:05, while the TV was idle. Nothing was changed, transcoded or booked.
Two runs of the hand-triggered `orbit_inspect_series` hook, each with Paul's approval and the TV idle:
- 0.99.13 at 14:21 (episodes only);
- 0.99.14 at 14:38 (full source diagnostics; log in beerus-inspect-log-0.99.14.txt).
| Copy | Episodes in Emby | Episodes | Runtime | Sources | Container |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8016753 (rated BR-10) | 4 | S1E1 The God Who Destroys; S1E2 The God of Destruction Heads to the Planet of the Kai; S1E3 The God of Destruction Heads to Earth; S1E4 The God of Saiyans | 23 min each | 1 each | mkv |
| 8055740 (TV-14) | 1 | S1E1 The God Who Destroys | 23 min | 1 | mkv |
Nothing was changed, transcoded, booked or added to Vortex.
- Four episodes have aired in Japan so far (11, 18 and 25 October and 1 November). Copy 8016753 has all four, and 8055740 has the first only.
- **Not yet known:** video and audio codecs, audio languages, subtitles and playability on this device (BoxDecoders). The existing hook logs containers only.
- Finding them needs a small diagnostic-only change to that log line, adding per-stream codec, language and the BoxDecoders verdict, as its own release.
- Alternatively, Paul can read them from Emby's media info for each episode.
- **Provisional recommendation:** copy 8016753, because it's the complete one. This is subject to the codec, audio and playability check.
- **Before anything goes to Vortex:** the copy is confirmed playable, Paul approves, and the booking is proposed as Stage D. Nothing is added automatically.
## The two copies
| | Copy A: Emby 8016753 | Copy B: Emby 8055740 |
|---|---|---|
| Episodes | 4 of 4 aired so far (S1E1 to E4), none missing | 1 (S1E1 only) |
| Runtime | 23 min each | 23 min |
| Container | mkv, 1 source each | mkv, 1 source |
| Video | H.264 High, 1920×1080, 8-bit | HEVC Main 10, 3840×2160, 10-bit |
| Audio | 1 track: AAC, Japanese, stereo | 1 track: AAC, Japanese, stereo |
| English audio | no | no |
| Subtitles | English ASS on every episode, flagged forced and default; Portuguese ASS on all 4 and Spanish on 3; episode 1 also has an external English SRT | 14 ASS tracks; Chinese is the default; English isn't flagged default |
| Box verdict | playable, all 4 | playable |
## Recommendation
**Copy A (8016753)** is preferred, provisionally until you approve:
- It's the only complete copy.
- Its 1080p H.264 is the lightest, most widely supported format on the box.
- English subtitles are flagged default on every episode.
Copy B duplicates only episode 1, in heavier 4K HEVC 10-bit, and defaults to Chinese subtitles.
## Limitations
- **Japanese audio only.** No English dub exists in the library. Vortex allows subtitled anime (its English-audio filter is off), but Vortex Prime's after-school identity is mostly English-dubbed shows.
- **Subtitles must show for it to work.** The English track is ASS, flagged forced and default. Whether Orbit's player shows it automatically, and how well Media3 renders its styling, has **not** been checked. "Playable" here is the compatibility verdict from metadata and the box's decoder list, not watched playback.
- **Overlap with Dragon Ball Super (2015).** This is a remake of the same Beerus saga, and Vortex is airing Dragon Ball Super episodes 1 to 6, the start of that saga, from 6 to 11 November.
## Playback test (not yet done)
Orbit can only play what's booked on a channel, and it has no way to play one chosen file. A short test without touching bookings needs a small debug-only hook, such as an intent extra that plays one episode id once in the normal player and then returns. That would be its own release, for your approval. Alternatively, watching episode 1 in the Emby app on the box shows the file and its subtitles, but not Orbit's player.
