Orbit TV 0.6.0 — one real scheduled sample channel

Prepared 1 November 2026, Europe/London.

Result

Menu → Connect Emby → Check 20 items → Create sample channel. Builds 101 Orbit One from up to three distinct direct-stream-eligible titles, after at most five media-source metadata probes within the existing 20-item sample. At least two are required. The new sample guide displays real Now/Next and upcoming start/end times. Watch channel joins the current programme in progress and automatically follows subsequent wall-clock slots. Back returns to that guide. The main three-channel fictional guide remains separate.

Actual source runtimes retain millisecond precision, and the selected source ID is locked for tuning. The repeating UTC timeline is independent of launching or watching the app. The same lineup and durations recreate the same schedule; no channel, token or password is persisted. Scheduled mode follows the clock, with pause/seeking reserved for the existing on-demand mode. The previously accepted auto-hiding programme strip is preserved and gains genuine Now/Next.

Check transition temporarily joins near a boundary, using real durations and the same rollover path. It is labelled Transition check and returns to the ordinary clock when closed. The guide notes that joining near the end can affect normal provider viewing history.

Validation

  • Final Android debug build, all 47 unit tests and lint passed; zero lint errors.
  • 16 auth/metadata tests, 15 playback/source tests, 12 channel/timeline tests, four demo-schedule tests.
  • Tested precise source/catalogue runtimes, exact boundaries, lineup repetition, UTC continuity across midnight/DST dates, negative epochs, deterministic recreation, immutable snapshots, duration/count validation, transition checking, a three-title/five-probe limit, early stop on expired login/rate limit, selected-source locking and null playback identity handling.
  • An intentionally incorrect inclusive end boundary failed its regression test. The correct strict boundary was restored, then the complete build/tests/lint passed again.
  • Review checked wall-clock effect keys, old-plan suppression at rollover, cancellation, serialization of slow metadata preparation, post-buffer join adjustment, real guide focus, source-runtime drift handling, Back navigation and the existing background/session cleanup.
  • The debug signing certificate matches installed 0.5.0, allowing a standard update.
  • No new runtime dependency, device permission, server administration or full scan was added.

Evidence limits

Paul confirmed 0.4.0 played provider media and 0.5.0's programme strip hides correctly. Real 0.6.0 channel tuning and automatic rollover remain unverified until TV installation. All new tests use fictional items, fake credentials and scripted API responses; development tools did not sign in, read private library metadata, retrieve video or capture provider images. Metadata eligibility is not a guarantee every codec/profile decodes on the Xiaomi. Buffering can occur between titles; this is not a gapless server broadcast. Current access is session-scoped. A changed provider sample/runtime can change the rebuilt lineup. A source runtime change beyond two seconds triggers a rebuild message instead of timeline drift. The detailed request/lifecycle limits remain in docs/sample-scheduled-channel.md.

TV acceptance check after approval

  1. Sign in on the TV and load the existing sample.
  2. Create sample channel, then Watch channel; check join-in-progress and the true Next title/time.
  3. Back should return to the real sample guide without another login.
  4. Check transition should join near an end and automatically move to the next programme.
  5. Close the test and confirm the guide returns to the ordinary wall clock.
  6. Back to sample should retain on-demand playback; leaving the connection flow ends the session.

Report pass/fail and any fixed error text only. Keep credentials, private titles and URLs on the TV. No device update was performed during this build increment; ask Paul before installation.
