Orbit TV 0.100.0: the v2 interface

Paul approved the v2 designs and asked for them to be built and installed on 4 November 2026 at 17:08. The change is to the interface only. Scheduling and bookings are unchanged, and every channel's four-week booking fingerprint is identical to 0.99.17.

What's in it

  • Top bar (MainActivity): one bar on every screen: Home, What's On, TV Guide, Drive-In, Arcade.
    • The current screen is white with a gold underline; the focused place is filled gold.
    • The clock and date sit on the right. The gear stays at the end, for Settings.
    • Back from What's On, Drive-In or Arcade goes Home. The TV Guide and What's On handle Back themselves.
  • Home (HomeScreen): only the category menu, a stacked list in the centre, after the classic satellite guide.
    • Each row is an icon and a name in capitals; the focused row is filled gold. There are no numbers and no arrow.
    • OK opens the TV Guide on that category.
    • The live picture, On Now and the Drive-In card are gone from Home. What's On and the Drive-In carry them.
  • What's On (WhatsOn.kt, WhatsOnPage.kt): one screen with Tonight's Pick, Tonight on Orbit (up to 5) and Coming Up (up to 3).
    • Source: it reads only the channels' committed plans and the Drive-In's plan, so nothing unbooked can appear, and nothing is written.

    • Rules, strongest first:

      1. a first airing on Orbit (the premiere reason);
      2. a booked channel event (a presentation key);
      3. a Drive-In double or triple bill;
      4. a complete multi-part story;
      5. a Drive-In bill or an evening film on a film channel.
    • Variety: at most one card per channel and one per franchise.

    • Edition: the choice turns over at 12:00 each day, and finished programmes drop out.

    • Pop-up: OK on a card opens it:

      • Watch live when it's on now, which tunes straight in;
      • Remind me when it's later;
      • Back.

      A Drive-In card goes to the Drive-In.

    • Reminders: kept in reminders-0.json. They arrive 5 minutes before and at the start, over whatever's on, as the Drive-In's do. Watch tunes in.

  • Drive-In (DriveInScreen): one screen.
    • The chosen bill sits large on the left, over its own film artwork from Emby, or the lot scene. The art is blended into deep navy.
    • The ticket status is beside it. This week's bills (up to 5) are on the right.
    • ▲▼ choose a bill. OK watches what's showing now, or opens the existing ticket screen.
    • The scene rotation and marquee boards are retired. Tickets, reminders and the big-screen player are unchanged.
  • TV Guide (GuideGrid): restyled.
    • Category chips run along the top: the current one gold, the focused one ringed. Down goes to the grid.
    • The focused programme's details sit beside the live picture in a navy panel.
    • Channel numbers are gold. Later programmes are a shade darker than what's on, and the now marker and progress line are gold.
    • Its behaviour is unchanged: OK on what's on tunes in, and Back goes Home.
  • Version: 0.100.0 (versionCode 148).

Checks before install

  • 460 of 461 unit tests pass (2 skipped: hand-run replays that need input files). Lint has no errors.
  • Six new tests in WhatsOnPageTest:
    • the rules and their order, with the premiere's two episodes as one card;
    • one card per channel;
    • nothing unbooked ever appears, including Beerus without its booking;
    • finished programmes drop out, and the edition turns at noon;
    • one franchise can't take over;
    • Drive-In bills come from the Drive-In plan;
    • reminders come at 5 minutes and at the start, once each.
  • Booking fingerprints: the four-week replay of all 30 channels, on the box's files after the 0.99.17 install, is identical to 0.99.17 on every channel.
  • The one failing test: FinalNetworkAuditTest, on the same files, reports one "same file within 24 h" on Vortex. It's identical on 0.99.17, because this release doesn't touch scheduling.
    • Cause: 0.99.17's premiere-night Dragon Ball film can repeat the film shown at Friday's Movie Night when no other short film fits before 21:00.
    • Fix: a small scheduler change is proposed separately, for Paul's approval, before the 21 November bookings are made around 14 to 15 November.

Installation record (4 November 2026, 17:19 GMT)

  • Snapshot and rollback:
    • All 191 schedule-folder files and the settings file were copied off the box first, to Codex/install-0.100.0-20261104-171916.
    • A rollback copy is on the box in no_backup/schedule-rollback-0.99.17.
    • The 0.99.17 APK is in outputs/revision-0.99.17.
  • Install: the APK's SHA-256 was checked. The box reports versionCode 148, 0.100.0-whats-on.
  • On launch: the Emby server refused the saved sign-in (HTTP 401 or 403) when the app restored its connection. The app therefore asked to sign in again and dropped the refused token from its saved state, as designed.
    • The installs earlier today, the last at 16:11, kept the same token. This release doesn't change sign-in or the requests it makes, apart from the version number in the header, which has changed with every release.
    • The cause isn't confirmed.
  • No top-up ran, so all 191 schedule files are byte-identical to the snapshot.
  • Pending: Paul signs in on the TV. Then check the top-ups, What's On, the Drive-In, the TV Guide and the reminders on the box.
