Orbit TV 0.87.0: Orbit Three, Gold and Riot identities, and fair block rotation

  • Orbit Three, Orbit Gold and Riot now play the lists and day parts agreed with Paul on 3 November 2026 (docs/channels). Scottish comedy is in Orbit Three's daytime mix and in Scottish Comedy Night, Friday and Saturday 21:00 to 00:00. Gold keeps Sunday Gold. Riot keeps Riot Laughs and Saturday Stunt Night. Friends and How I Met Your Mother join Orbit 1's evening and keep their Riot appearances. "The Good Life" now matches the library's "The Good Life (1975)".
  • Block rotation: each block now remembers its own place in its rotation, saved with the plan's cursor. Before, a block restarted from the same show each day, so in a week's replay from real episode counts 9 shows on Dark Files never aired, and the new configurations would have left 12 unseen on Orbit 2, 8 on Three, 7 on Gold and 4 on Riot. After: none on 101 to 106, 204, 601 and 614.
  • Replay checks: block edges sensible (a block starts with the first programme after its hour), no episode twice in a week, nothing under 10 minutes. Fawlty Towers (12 episodes) airs about 7 times a week, down from 11.
  • Committed plans are kept and phase in. A cursor saved by an older version simply has no block positions and starts them fresh.
  • Unit tests: 330 passed, including the 9 plan fingerprints from 0.81.4 and a new day-to-day rotation test. Lint passed.

Install checks (3 November 2026, Paul's list)

Two weeks replayed from the box's real pools, committed plans and progress for all 30 smart channels, topping up every hour as the app does, with every plan and progress file written and read back each hour as after a restart. A second run without the fix gives the comparison.

  • Restarts: the run through files matched an unbroken run exactly on all 30 channels. Each block's place is saved in the plan's tail.
  • Committed plans: unchanged in all 337 hourly top-ups on every channel.
  • Gaps: none. Fallbacks: the same with and without the fix (only film channels resting films). The same show on two channels at once: 0.
  • Blocks, weekdays and weekends: every new programme came from the right block for its time and day. Vortex's films only at Movie Night on Friday and Saturday.
  • Episode order: no in-order show skipped or repeated an episode; mixed shows followed their own mix, with 0 to 2% of steps happening to be the next episode.
  • Each block now starts its day from different shows: Dark Files' day block 6 different openers in 8 days, against 2 before; Orbit 2's daytime 6 of 9, against 1.
  • Special rules: Tots never more than 2 in a row; Paradox and Dark Files kept their blocks; Ring X's nights unchanged.
  • Shows unaired in the replay after the fix are short series that had finished their round and were waiting for the others (the finish-together rule, unchanged), and new comedy titles the box hadn't read yet.
  • Limit: the progress file doesn't carry block places, only the plan file does. If both copies of a plan were lost, blocks would start afresh, as before.

Installed on the box 3 November 2026 at about 13:30 with the box on the Google TV home screen; the app wasn't launched. Plans stay as they were until Orbit next opens and reads its new lists.

After install (3 November 2026, from the box's files after Orbit opened at about 13:32)

  • Committed plans: every programme kept from before the install is unchanged on all channels.
  • Pools re-read with the new lists: Orbit 1 30 to 46 shows, Orbit 2 31 to 53, Three 20 to 45, Gold 24 to 44, Riot 18 to 49, including Riot's Graveyard and Stunt Night titles and Gold's Saturday shows.
  • First new blocks (Monday 9 November onwards on Orbit 1 and 2): each in the right hours with the right shows, no fallbacks, and each block carries on its rotation the next day (Orbit 1's Tuesday daytime opens with Lizzie McGuire, after Monday's run, rather than starting again at The Fresh Prince).
