Horizontal Scale and Vertical Scale accept any number above 0 and at most 4000000 %, and Baseline Shift accepts -4000000 to 4000000 pt, the limits the document model keeps a character style in. Character Rotation is stored from -180 to 180 degrees, as text.setFormat stores it. A scale outside its limit shows the new message "{label} must be a number above 0 and at most {max}", translated in every catalog that has Basic Character Formats.
Character Style Options and New Character Style get an Advanced
Character Formats section with Horizontal Scale, Vertical Scale,
Baseline Shift, Character Rotation and Language. Empty fields stay
unset, an explicit 100%, 0 degrees or English: USA stays distinct from
unset, and Reset Panel on the section clears only these five. Scales
take 1% to 10000% and baseline shift -1296 pt to 1296 pt, as
text.setRangeStyle does; rotation is stored from -180 to 180 degrees.
Language sets the language the characters are shaped in; hyphenation
and spelling do not change.
A field still as it opened keeps its stored value without the range
check, so a style captured from a scaled type object can be renamed.
The same applies to Basic's Size and Leading minimum.
charStyle.edit keeps a language tag that is not in the list when the
style already has it, so a style read from a file with such a tag can
be edited.
The OpenType panel gets a Position menu after Figure, with Default
Position, Superscript, Subscript, Numerator and Denominator. `numr` and
`dnom` join the extra features (the existing bits keep their indices),
so they round-trip through the stored tags and reach the shaper.
text.setStyle and text.setRangeStyle take `featureChanges`, which turns
features on or off on top of each character's own features in one
command and keeps every tag the list does not name. The Figure menu,
the Position menu and the checkboxes send it, so on a selection whose
characters have different features each character keeps its other
features. Reset OpenType Features still sends `features`.
Catalog rows for Position:, Default Position, Numerator and
Denominator; one line each in docs/type-parity.md and
docs/target-app-parity.md.
With one Objects on Path group selected, the Selection and Objects on
Path tools show a round handle beyond the top of the group's first
object, joined by a line to its attachment point. Dragging it adds the
angle the pointer turns about that point to the group's Rotate, previewed
while dragging and kept as one undo step on release
(object.objectsOnPath.options). Shift turns in 15 degree steps, Escape
cancels the drag, and the pointer shows the rotate cursor over the
handle.

Area type made from the editing data's text document came in with one
row, one column, the 18 pt gutter and the Ascent first baseline,
whatever its frame kept. Each area frame now keeps its rows and columns,
the gutter between rows and the gutter between columns, and its first
baseline (Fixed, Cap Height, Leading or x Height) with its minimum,
scaled with the art's units. Each frame of a thread keeps its own, and a
key that is missing or can't be read leaves that option as it was. A
first baseline the frame keeps is no longer replaced by the fixed one
that matches the file's first line.
AreaOptions gets row_gutter (rowGutter, left out while unset), which
layout spaces rows by; text.areaOptions takes and reports rowGutter, a
gutter given alone sets both, and the Area Type Options dialog shows
Row Gutter.
Every graphic in a version 7 wraparound group (`*w` … `*W`), before
or after its type, is now a wrap object with an offset of 0 instead of
the 6 pt default, and a group with no type in it marks all of its
graphics. A graphic before the type is below it, so the type flows
around it only after it is moved above. Operands on `*w` or `*W`, and
a `*w` inside a compound path, are errors.
Docs: docs/file-format-parity.md.
Fixes#2763. An object whose editing-data dictionary holds the text wrap
options keeps them (offset in points, 6 pt by default, clamped to
±1000 pt; Invert Wrap), and the objects after the text in a version 7
wraparound group (`*w` … `*W`) are wrap objects at the default options.
Area type below a wrap object in its layer flows around it before the
layers are compared with the page, and threaded type flows on into its
next frames. A Large Canvas file's offset is scaled with its art.
The wrap resolver moves into `vectorcraft_doc::text::resolve_wrap` for
the import and the edit-time refresh, and builds each wrap object's
outline once per layer. A file whose wrap shapes would copy more than
2,000,000 anchors is not read from its editing data.

The status bar said "Opened with 1 note(s)", "Saved <path> with 1 note(s)",
"Discarded 1 recovered document(s)" and "Restored 1 recovered document(s)",
and the Global Edit options showed "Result(s): 1". They now use the singular
for 1 and the plural otherwise, in English through i18n::msg_n and in every
catalog through @msgplural rows (the Results line through an @plural row).
The engine's warnings for linked images and placed documents output as their
previews, and its errors for a page past a placed file's last page or
artboard, also name their counts in the singular or the plural.
The catalogs drop the rows no message reads any more: the plain "(s)" rows
of the changed messages and the @msg row for "Packaged {n} file(s){note}".
Follows #5002.
Window › Swatch Libraries and the Swatches panel's library menu get a
Patterns submenu with Geometric Patterns, a built-in library of eleven
black pattern swatches drawn in code (dots, stripes, a checkerboard, a
grid, diamonds, triangles, crosses and a zigzag).
- Clicking a pattern in its library panel adds the pattern and its
swatch to the document and applies it to the active fill or stroke
(Alt: the other one), as one undo step. A second click reuses the
swatch; a different pattern under the same name keeps its name and
the library's pattern comes in numbered.
- swatch.library.list lists the pattern libraries after the gradient
libraries (category "patterns"), and swatch.library.add brings a
pattern swatch's pattern as pasting art painted with it does.
- The library panel draws each pattern tile from the library's pattern.
- "Geometric Patterns" is translated in every catalog.
The Actions panel menu has Duplicate, between New Set… and Delete. With
an action selected it copies that action to right after it in the same
set; otherwise it copies the current set, with all its actions, to right
after that set. The copy is named after the original with " copy" added
and is selected, and a copied set gets an id of its own. Copies are
saved with the other sets.
ui.actionSet.duplicate {set?: index, action?: index} does the copy and
returns {set, action?}. An index past the last set or action is an
error. A recording into a later set and an open Set Options or Batch
dialog stay on their own set and action.
The bucket outlines the face under the pointer at its Width setting and an
edge at half of it (4 px and 2 px by default), as the help page says faces
are highlighted with a thick line and edges with a thin line. The Live
Paint Selection tool keeps one width for faces and edges.
A bin table that lists more than 100,000 runs of character or of paragraph
properties is refused while its pages are read. Every paragraph now counts
against the 100,000-paragraph limit, hidden and deleted ones and those in
field instructions included, and so does every line break. The properties
of the styles and of the property runs are read from one budget of 16 MiB,
and a document with more is refused.
Text inside a field's instructions is found with a count of the fields
open in their instructions instead of a search of the open fields for each
character.
Stshif.cstd counts the LPStd records of the style sheet and must be less than
0x0FFE. A sheet that ended before cstd records was read as far as it went, and
paragraphs in the missing styles were placed with the document defaults; a
cstd of 0x0FFE or more was cut to 0x0FFE. Both are now refused as a damaged
style sheet.
Each style's formatting is now worked out once, on top of the style it
is based on, and each property run's formatting once, so a document with
many hidden paragraphs or long style chains no longer resolves the
chains again for every paragraph and run. Character styles are applied
as a change to the paragraph's formatting.
A bin table whose file positions do not rise, a property page listed
twice, pages whose runs overlap, and styles based on each other in a
loop are refused as damaged, as MS-DOC requires (PlcBteChpx, ChpxFkp,
StdfBase). Property runs refer to their page instead of copying it.
The file-format and progress docs named three of the cases in which an
unread object's page art is not used and the file comes in as its page.
The import also does this when the object lies on an artboard that has
no page, when no page art lies inside its box, when that page art is
inside a page group with a clip, mask, transparency or appearance, when
the object holds a frame of threaded type, and when the page art uses a
pattern, image or swatch that the page lacks or that differs from the
editing data's (`replace_unread` and `copy_page_resources` in
`crates/eps/src/import/native/build.rs`).
#5057 opens ruler guides and guide objects from a .ai's editing data and
closed#779. The File formats row of docs/target-app-parity.md, the known
failures in docs/file-format-parity.md, G9 in docs/gaps.md and
docs/roadmap.md still listed guides as lost.
An object whose art style holds Drop Shadow, Inner Glow, Outer Glow,
Feather, Round Corners or Scribble now opens as itself with those
effects live, in their order. Feather is read under the name and key
the files use (`Adobe Fuzzy Mask`, `Radius`).
Each setting is read only when it is written as its kind (`/Int`,
`/Real`, a fill style for a color) with a value in range. An unknown
key or choice, a missing setting, or a Scribble with a color of its own
keeps the drawn look, where the reader used to cast, clamp or default
the value.
dataset.import and variable.loadLibrary added an undo step, cleared Redo
and marked a saved document modified even when the variables and data
sets came out as they were, such as the same CSV or library loaded
again. Both now build the new variables on a copy and record a step only
when it differs. variable.loadLibrary's params text and docs/mcp.md say
so.
dataset.import read two header cells that named one variable (City
and City, or Shown and #Shown) into the same column, so each row kept
only the last non-blank cell and the other value was dropped without a
word. The import is now refused with the two column numbers, and the
message has a row in every complete-message catalog.
dataset.import replaced the reason for a refused cell with "value for
`X` must match its variable kind", so a visibility value such as
maybe and a graph value over 262,144 bytes gave the same message. The
error now keeps the line and gives the reason, and both messages have
a row in every complete-message catalog.
Legacy type (`To` ... `TO`) now reads `min opt max TC` and `min opt max TW`
into the paragraph's letter and word spacing, `hangingQuotes Tq` into Roman
hanging punctuation, and `hyphenate limit lead tail max Th` into hyphenation
on or off, After First, Before Last and the Hyphen Limit (0 when the limit
flag is 0). Values are kept to the ranges the Justification and Hyphenation
options take, and a spacing triple out of order goes back to its default.
Operands of the legacy type attributes are read by their place: an attribute
whose operands are missing, are not numbers, or are flags other than 0 and 1
stays as it was. Before, a value that was not a number shifted the later
operands (`5 /x 7 Ti` set indents of 5, 7 and 0), and a bad `TA` or `Ta`
turned kerning on or set the alignment to left. One long `Tx` no longer goes
past the reader's limit on characters.
A clipping path painted with a stroke (`W S`, `W B`) lost the stroke when
a .ai file opened from its editing data. The clipping path now keeps it,
and it paints over the clipped art as a clipping path's stroke does in
VectorCraft. A gradient-filled clipping path stroked with `1 BB` or `2 BB`
put the stroke on the painted copy of its fill, under the clipped art; it
now goes on the clipping path too. Several clipping paths in one group
make one compound path, which keeps their stroke, opacity and blend mode
when they all have the same ones.
View > Outline was one app-wide flag saved in the interface preferences,
so after Cmd+Y every later launch drew every opened or new document as
outlines, with no fills. The flag is now part of each document's view:
a document opens in Preview, each tab shows its own Outline or Preview,
and the setting is not saved at launch. An older preferences file that
holds the flag still loads, and its value is ignored.
The Outline command and ui.set's outline act on the active document and
are an error without one.
A version 7 text object has no arbitrary-angle character rotation: its
character attributes include baseline shift (Ts), scaling (Tz) and
tracking (Tt), Tv only turns Roman characters 90 degrees in vertical
text, and the positioning operators such as Tm are ignored on reading.
Type with Character Rotation was written as editable text with the
rotation left out, so rotated characters opened upright.
Such type is now written as its glyphs' outlines, the way type 8-bit text
can't hold already is, with the warning "type with rotated characters is
written as outlines, which keep the rotation, and is no longer editable
text". The outlines keep each character's rotation, baseline shift and
scale. Type without rotated characters, and type turned a whole number of
times, is still written as text.

A Separation space whose colorant is named All paints every plate, and
one named None paints nothing (ISO 32000-1:2008, 8.6.6.4). EPS export
wrote a spot swatch's name as its colorant, so a spot color named All
printed on every plate and one named None did not print.
Such an ink is now written as All Spot or None Spot, numbered All Spot 2
and on when a spot swatch already has that name, in its Separation
space, DeviceN spaces and the %%DocumentCustomColors and
%%CMYKCustomColor comments. At PostScript Level 3, a gradient that mixes
one of these inks with another spot ink or with process or gray stops is
now a DeviceN shading instead of process colors. Registration still
writes All.
A gradient of one spot ink's tints and paper white is written as a
Separation shading in that ink, with each white stop at 0% of it. A
white stop linked to a swatch that is not a spot color (a global White
swatch, for example) did not count as paper white. In an RGB document
the spot ink was then dropped: a Classic gradient was written in the
stops' own colors, and a Perceptual one was exported as an image in
process colors.
Such a stop now counts as paper white in the Separation and DeviceN
paths and in the checks that pick them, as an unlinked white stop does.
A stop linked to a white spot color is still a stop of that ink.
An override on a dynamic symbol instance names an object of its symbol's
art by path. Replace Symbol kept every override whose path the new
symbol's art also had, so a change made to one object of the old symbol
was applied to an unrelated object of the new one. An instance given a
different symbol now drops its overrides; an instance replaced with its
own symbol keeps them. Undo brings them back.
Applying a data set wrote a text value into the bound frame only, and the
thread's reflow then joined it with the other frames' old text. The art no
longer matched the row it had just applied, a captured row applied back lost
text, and a value bound to a later frame deleted the rest of the story.
- A text value bound to any frame of threaded text replaces the whole story,
which then flows through the frames again. `overflow` names the story's
last frame.
- Capture Data Set, Update Data Set and the Variables panel's match check
read such a frame as the whole story, frames joined in thread order.
- When any frame of the story is locked, the text value is skipped and
counted in `skipped`, and the story is not read.
- Two text variables bound in one story apply in definition order, as for
two on one object: the one defined last wins.
Docs: docs/mcp.md.
Version 7 files write each palette swatch as its paint and `Pc`, with no
name. The reader only kept a swatch with a name before `Pc`, so such a
palette gave no swatches and the document got the default set.
A swatch without a name is now named by its spot color, gradient or
pattern, or by its values in the format the swatch import already uses
for unnamed colors ("Gray K=25", "C=25 M=0 Y=0 K=0"). `Pn` and a `Pc`
with no paint before it add nothing. Named swatches keep their names.
An operator the reader does not know, or a `Pg`, now ends the paint
before it, so a later `(name) Pc` no longer takes that paint. The
swatch limit is kept with a running count instead of summing every
group at each `Pc`.
The color sliders now mark the row they edit with `model: "new"`
instead of a dialog-wide flag, and `recolor.apply` reads a row's own
`model` before the command's. Rows the sliders did not edit keep each
color's model, so with RGB art and a CMYK color group, a slider edit of
one row no longer turns the other rows' art CMYK. Another edit of the
row's new color, Reset and rows reduced again remove the mark, and
`recolor.randomize` moves it with its new color.
A wheel drag or a harmony rule on the Edit tab now removes a row's tint
when it gives the row another new color, as the color sliders, the hex
field and the Color Picker already do. With Limit to Library, an edit
that snaps back to the row's own color keeps the tint.
recolor.randomize moves each row's tint with its new color when it
shuffles the order, and removes the tint from a color that saturation
and brightness changes.
The Assign tab gets a Color Mode menu (HSB, RGB, CMYK, Lab, and Tint when
the row's new color is a spot color of the Limit to Library library) and
its sliders under the rows. They edit the first selected row's new color
and are disabled with no row selected. Once they have edited a color in a
mode, the preview and OK send recolor.apply with model "new", so the art
takes the color in that mode.
recolor.apply rows take an optional tint (percent, default 100): art linked
to the row's global or spot library swatch takes that share of its tint.
recolor.randomize keeps a row's tint.
