The Character Styles and Paragraph Styles panel menus get Load Character Styles... or Load Paragraph Styles..., and Load All Styles..., which add the styles of a document picked in an open dialog in one undo step (charStyle.load, paraStyle.load, textStyle.loadAll). The swatches, patterns and symbols the styles use come along as Paste brings them, in use order, so a style or pattern renamed on the way in keeps its links. A style the document already has, under its name or a numbered copy of it, is not added again; another style whose name is taken is added under a free name. The file's Normal styles, and styles with a blank name or attributes that do not read, are not loaded.
